The former Chairman of CAP, Andrew Brown, has been awarded a CBE in the New Year Honours List for services to the Advertising Industry. CAP extends its warmest congratulations to Andrew for the recognition of his contributions. Over his 11 years at the Committee of Advertising Practice he worked to enhance advertising self-regulation with the aim of making sure that advertising was responsible to consumers, business and society. By doing this he helped to protect the industry’s freedom to advertise responsibly.

During his time at CAP he oversaw major developments of the self-regulatory system; leading the industry task force that negotiated the ‘contracting out’ of broadcast advertising regulation from Ofcom; the extensive review of the Advertising Codes that were launched in revised form in 2010, and the extensions to the remit of the CAP Code to cover marketing communications on websites and in video-on-demand services.

Andrew retired from CAP in March 2011.
