The Advertising Standards Board of Finance (Asbof) today announced the appointment of James Best as the new Chairman of the Committees of Advertising Practice (CAP and BCAP). James will take over from Andrew Brown from the end of March 2011, but work closely with him from 1st January.

James has been Chair of the Advertising Association, President of the European Association of Communications Agencies, a Council member of the IPA (running the Effectiveness Committee) and is a Council member of the Advertising Standards Authority. He was previously Chairman of BMP DDB and then of DDB UK.

Commenting on his appointment, Sir (Chris) Powell, Chairman of Asbof, said: “James’ understanding of the advertising business and advertising self-regulation is second to none, we are lucky to have him.”

Mike Hughes, Director General of ISBA, said: "I am delighted that James has agreed to take on the role of chair of CAP/BCAP. He brings deep familiarity with the self-regulatory system and a passion for protecting the freedom to advertise responsibly. I am confident that he will astutely lead CAP/BCAP through the challenges posed by the fast-changing media and regulatory landscape in which we operate"
