Free Flights Promotions

CAP is concerned about advertisements and promotions that run across various media and offer consumers flights that are described as “free” even though consumers have to pay non-optional taxes and charges. Those offers are made by airlines or by other companies that offer the flights as an incentive when other products are bought. Unless taxes and charges are not passed on to consumers for payment, flights should not be described as “free” even if that claim is asterisked to explanatory copy, e.g. “free* flights when you spend £xxx. *all you do is pay the airport tax and service charges”.
Please consult the CAP Copy Advice team before publishing, handling or distributing any marketing communications that offer “free” flights as an incentive.
