DRIVING INSTRUCTOR COURSES
Type: General
Sent To: National and regional press contacts
Action: Consult Copy Advice.
Sector: Employment

The ASA recently published an adjudication against an advertiser offering a driver instructor course. The ASA asked the advertiser to ensure that future advertisements stated that a fee applied for the course. To ensure a level playing field in this sector, the Compliance team advised other advertisers of the ruling and the implications for their advertising. CAP is concerned that, despite the action it has taken, many driving instructor course advertisements that do not comply with the adjudication are still appearing in the classified sections of both the regional and national press.

Press advertisements for driving instructor courses should state that a fee is payable for the course. Also, unless they offer salaried positions, advertisers should not state or imply that the income level of successful candidates is secured.

Please consult the CAP Copy Advice team before accepting driving instructor course advertisements that either do not state that a fee is payable or offer a secured income level or imply a salaried position.
