Food for thought

16 February 2007

Ofcom has announced the new rules on advertising food and drink to children on TV. You can find the new rules here.  They will make a dramatic difference to the way in which certain products, namely those that have a high fat, sugar and salt content, are advertised. Not only will the content of the ads change, but when they can be shown will also be subject to restriction. The changes that have been announced by Ofcom have immediate effect. The scheduling restrictions will apply from 1 April, and the content changes from 1 July.

To give guidance on what the new rules will mean to those involved in producing TV ads for food and drink products, the Broadcast Committee of Advertising Practice is running a free morning master class. The event, which is now full, is taking place on Wednesday 28 February at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts in London. Further information is available here.
