£150 Student Award up for grabs!

17 November 2005

The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has launched its Student Award 2006 scheme for students able to demonstrate a keen understanding of its work.

The ASA Student Award rewards those students most able to show a thorough understanding of the self-regulatory system within which the ASA operates and the benefits that the system brings to consumers and the advertising industry. Such students may be eligible for an award of £150.

There are two entry levels for the awards: those aged up to 18 years old studying at GCSE level or above; and those in full-time higher education aged over 18 years old. One £150 award, with two £50 runner-up awards, is available at each level.

To be eligible for the awards, students need to supply either a critique of ASA adjudications where complaints had been raised that ads presented harmful or socially irresponsible messages to children, or create a multimedia advertising campaign for a soft drink targeted at young people, justifying the approach that has been used. Entries should be between 500 and 1000 words and need to be supplied by Wednesday 1 February 2006.

Full details on the ASA Student Awards, including recommended reading and resources for would-be entrants, can be found on the ASA website.
