New ASA Council Member

The Chairman of The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA), Lord Borrie, QC, has announced that Susan Murray, the Chief Executive of Littlewoods High Street Stores businesses, has joined the ASA Council.

Susan Murray joined Littlewoods plc in 1998 as Group Marketing Director, and became Chief Executive of its High Street division in April 2002. Before joining Littlewoods, Ms Murray was Worldwide President and CEO of The Pierre Smirnoff Company, part of Diageo plc.

Susan Murray is a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts as well as a member of the Complaints Panel of the Portman Group, which aims to promote sensible drinking and help prevent the misuse of alcohol.

Susan Murray joins the ASA Council with immediate effect, replacing Dianne Thompson. She will be one of the four advertising industry representatives on the Council.

Commenting on the appointment, Lord Borrie said: "Susan has an impressive track record in high-profile marketing roles. I am very pleased that she is joining the Council and am sure that her experience will greatly benefit the ASA Council in its decision-making."
