In May and July, the CAP Copy Advice team issued Ad Alerts 131 and 150 advising members to contact us before accepting any advertisements for the ‘potency pill’ Viagra.Viagra has now received a licence in the UK and is available on prescription. Section 7 of the Medicines (Advertising) Regulations 1994, however, prohibits the advertising to the public of medicinal products available by prescription only. Members are reminded to contact the Copy Advice team before accepting advertisements that offer Viagra for sale, offer advice about it or allude to it by using expressions such as ‘potency pill’ or ‘impotency drug’.
