Have your say in the ASA’s process review
29 October 2009
The ASA has begun a review of its processes, with a view to ensuring its duties are carried out efficiently and effectively.
Five years after assuming responsibility for the day-to-day regulation of broadcast advertising, the time is right for a review. And, with a relatively new Chairman and Chief Executive on board, the ASA is taking the opportunity to take a fresh look at how it does what it does.. The testing economic climate makes it more important than ever that the ASA performs its duties in a cost-effective way.
What is the Process Review?
The review will focus on how the ASA’s core operations function, particularly those relating to:
- the handling and investigating of complaints from the public and from advertisers
- the proactive monitoring of ads and enforcement of ASA decisions against parties that cannot or will not comply with ASA directions and
- the provision of pre-publication advice and guidance by the CAP’ Copy Advice team.
The review will not look at the content of the Advertising Codes, which are separately written and maintained by CAP and BCAP. The Codes are currently under review. Read more about the Advertising Codes Review.
How will the review be undertaken?
The ASA will be working with Berkshire Consulting Ltd to gain an important external perspective on its processes and to help engage key stakeholders in the review.
What is the timescale of the project?
The review kicked off this October and it will take about five months to complete.
How to keep up to date and get involved.
The ASA website will be updated at key stages throughout the project to keep everyone up to date.
However, if you would like to express an interest in participating in this work, then please contact the ASA using the details provided below. Unfortunately, the ASA and its consultants may not be able to meet with, or speak to, everyone who is interested in getting involved in the project. But any comments or suggestions you might have that would be relevant to the project are welcome. Please write to:
